Let me comment on some better solutions for those tools.
1. pstricks
the most advantage is it is can build in the latex code.
3. LyX is not good at all. It will slow down your writing on latex.
6. FEMlab is kind of complicated. I think the most wonderful thing about matlab is the easiness. One can learn Matlab in half an hour. But not FEMlab.

3. I haven't tried to use it actually. But I saw someone playing with it and it was quite fast. That's why I want to try it sometime. Maybe it is not a good idea at all.
6. You are right. It is not as easy as Matlab. On the other hand, it has its own advantages, like: it is extremely easy to handle complicate geometry of the domain; there are now so many build-in models in many fields (from engineering to finance) in multiphysics. Well. Again no expert. I just saw a few presentations by Multiphysics guys.
